CAREER SUMMARY
35 years of diverse airline experience: Captain, FO, FE; Crew Resource Management (CRM) manager, developer, facilitator; Check Airman; APD; instructor. Achieved cultural change through innovative approaches to training. Arrived at a human factors approach to training through the facilitation of debriefs, rather than lecture. An effective communicator with excellent facilitation and problem-solving skills who enjoys finding a different approach to communicating ideas. During the last 12 years at TWA/AA developed and facilitated all CRM programs.
Currently involved in the AA/TWA LLC Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) as an Event Review Team member.
Initiated joint recurrent CRM classes between pilots and flight attendants at a low point in TWA history. Through facilitated course work, including practical exercises and humorous videos, communication between these two groups improved steadily.
Achieved cultural change between pilots and dispatchers through seminars, courses, and surveys, dramatically improving the working relationship between these two groups.
Conceived and created humorous videos which created a catalyst for CRM classroom and on-airplane communication.
Created the New Hire Pilots Home Study Guide that provided new hires with expectations and guidelines before beginning classes.
Created the Pilots PA (Public Address) Handbook and accompanying classroom exercises for new hire pilots.
Developed and served as an original member of the Probationary Pilots Review Board that monitored and counseled new hire pilots.
Created and facilitated a two-day check airman program that focused on AQP and LOFT debriefs. It provided insight on an array of human factors/CRM issues and culminated with "live"debriefs. During a five-year period trained every TWA check airman, dramatically changing the way these instructors debriefed.
